SunAWARE on Boston Harbor Islands is a collaboration between the Dept. of Conservation and Recreation (DCR), Boston Harbor Now, the National Park Service and Children's Melanoma Preveniton Foundation to raise awareness about safely enjoying the great outdoors during peak UV exposure.
The program includes educating permanent and seasonal staff, and providing on-site educational programs for visitors and tourists on Spectacle and George's Island and the Rose Kennedy Greenway. In addition, we trained Discovery Camp Administrators and provided resources, free-of-charge, for their counselors to use on the Islands. Perkins School for the Blind also partnered with us by providing two Summer Interns who provided information and sunscreen to visitors daily for six weeks. All of these partners allowed us to reach thousands of staff, campers, and visitors to the Boston Harbor Islands.
